Had very similar problems with my 1 series, sent there cause i saw a check engine, they quote me r20k..after a month went to collect and on my way home same day the check engine light came again, took it back to sandton bmw, they charged me another r30k...after two months the car was ready and after two days the light came again, now they charged me r6k..have all the receipts, i was putting the money because i really though that would be a solution for me not to take to the garage in the next 6 months atleast, all it happens was i spent more than r70k, i didnt have the car for more than two weeks in almost one year, at the end they said the light is because of the exausth manifold which is quote for r30k and they cant do on bm, also they dont advise me to so, also had my 3series they gave me lot of headache, once i left there they quoted me for around r30k to change the colling system than after two weeks the problem came again now they changed me for turbo wtf, also came with dents on the front wich it never had,also with a post it note saying "we remove dents,vontac xxxx"..
I sold now both cars for very cheap two friends of mine (dont reallt know if we still friends lol)
Bought it audi q3 and audi a6,planning to buy a rs5 now ameen
Im so happy, they are so gentle, they even offered me a wipe for windscreen, when i told i need to replace, they use to call and ask if im satisfied, which merc does also but bmw i think they not brave enough this days ro call and ask lol
Never had those problems with audi or mercedes, had only with bmw also a bit with lexus..but bmw guys, worst assistance in my life
